Lunar eclipse tonight

Total eclipse from 3-4 AM on the East coast, 6-7 AM on the west coast. Should be visible to the west-northwest. If you happen to live on the west coast, there’s a chance that you’ll be able to see the rising sun and the setting eclipsed moon simultaneously (if you have a clear view to the horizon).

This doesn’t break geometry; while the Sun, Earth, and Moon will be in a straight line (hence the eclipse), light is refracted slightly on passing through the Earth’s atmosphere, allowing it to “bend” around the Earth and be seen even when the straight line from the viewer to the light source would pass through the Earth.
