  1. Somewhat amusing that Nakagaki’s prior work (which won an Ig Nobel prize in 2008) directly led to this work, which may in turn directly lead to a better mathematical model for transportation systems, which would be an extremely beneficial result for society as a whole.
    I wonder how frequently research projects that win Ig Nobel prizes also result in valuable practical discoveries – I’m inclined to think the rate is higher than popular coverage of the awards would suggest.
